Yes! We did It!!

THE FREAKY WILD CROWD @ 11 pm

"It’s a total dud. This yr's juke-box sucks.”.This is what was going thru my mind till the evening of the first day of Utkarsh-’07 but soon I was to be proved wrong when by evening the entire court was jam packed with the crowd dancing madly to the blaring music.
This year’s juke-box was something that we as well as our juniors will remember in the years to come. Without a second thought, I can say our juke-box was even better than KGP’s .All our creative endeaveours & endless meetings bloomed fully during these three days.We put so much effort in making those posters of G-stall with the smiling big photo of Gandhi visible around the college..Guys,Gandhi indeed got his 30 secs(oops! 3 days) of long-deserved fame.(pun intended!)
Frankly speaking, when we( Da Juke-box gang-Rathz,Raj,Dion & of course, me) were working on introducing competitions like Sudoku, N-snake, Chirkutting, Blind Date etc. I was pretty skeptical about the response our these new ideas will get from the crowd especially about the success of the ‘Blind Date’ thing . I wasn’t expecting that any gal would be interested in it-only to be proved wrong again.

DA JUKE-BOX GANG (Camera: Flash : oops! my eyes closed !!)

With the start of 2nd day, all those rats started coming out of their rat-holes. I, who himself hasn’t solved a single sudoku till date, was surprised to see people jostling for participation in Sudoku. N-snake also received pretty gud response from all those poor souls who would ‘ve drawn flak from others for wasting their time playing Snake on their Nokias & ya! the thing I was most skeptical about –Blind Date proved to the biggest hit. In the morning, the registrations were just mild but huh ho!! to our utter amazement all the chicks walked in & wat say, after dat the registrations zoomed across the sky crossing the 150 . Overjoyed with the crowd response ,we came up with a Fear-Factor like idea at 10 in the nite but now we were sure that it’s gonna be a huge hit nxt day & we were not wrong !!
& all this wouldn’t have being possible without our planning & also the cooperation of our jrs - Sameer(for DJing),Nandy(for sacrificing his lappy), ,Masca(for slogging hs ass in registrations) ,Golu(for the Fear Factor idea & of course, his bike) & Shankar(for keeping the crowd engaged ). Now that Utkarsh is over ,All I can say is that we were determined to make this Utkarsh a big hit & we did it!! Now we’ve set a benchmark ,I hope our junior batchs take this mark even higher & make the nxt yr’s Utkarsh even a bigger hit.
For those of u who’ve weren’t here try this tongue twister which was the one among many I gave to the crowd but which even a single person couldn’t get perfectly rite(even I’d to practice it countless times to get it perfectly rite):
“Betty bought a bit of butter, but the bit of butter was a bit butter so she bought a bit of better butter to make the bit of bitter butter a bit better”
Cheers!!

My Two sides @2 in the night!!

It's 2 in the night, a lot of fleeting thoughts are doing the rounds of my head .
Just felt like penning down some of these.

As an another day of my life comes to an end,
My heart & mind still fighting, no more they are friends.
For sure, what one wants to say the other understands
Yet they refuse to budge from their own stands

My mind is strong yet so volatile
My heart is like a stone yet so fragile.
My mind turns a deaf ear to what my heart has to say
My mind wants to sail ahead while my heart wants to rest at bay

Sometimes life rips me apart & then I feel
How can this happen with me ,is this for real?
Is it true or is it just my worst fear?

But my mind says you’ve to face it ‘coz this is for real
you live in a world where there’s no mercy for the “dying”,my dear
Even if you fail , you’ve to learn to hide your tears
You have to keep on moving to be right there.

You may get tired , rest u mustn’t ,harder u have to strive
No time to smell the roses if u want to be “someone” in your life.
Till now u had just heard that glory road is tough
Now it’s ur time to tread & feel what this road is like.

But my heart asks me am I sure about what I want from my life?
Are money & fame the only things for which I want to survive?

In this berserk race from dawn to dusk haven’t I forgotten to be really alive?
Yes,I’ve long forgotten the chirping of birds & how that red rising sun looks like
Yes, It seems likes ages when I’ve been alone & felt nostalgic about home
with the sun down on the horizon & those trains passing by.
Yes, It seems like eons when I’ve been to a river & swam my heart out only to get tired

Time is now slipping out of my hands as moments just pass by
Still in a dilemma which of the “two lives” will let me drink the nectare of life
It’s still hazy & it’s still difficult to decide…

50 or Shady?

It's been the toast of discussion for rap fans all over the world who’s better –50 cent (Curtis Jackson) Or Eminem (Marshall Matthers) aka SlimShady aka Rabbit (nickname) . I’ve been following these discussions on communities ,web-mags & other rap sites but these who-rules-the-rap-world debates never end with a clear winner .So here’s my take on the Rap Ruler:.

Talking about 50 ,he himself works under Marshall’s Shady Records label .Although he got better offers from other production houses he chose to work for Shady Records ‘coz he knew that he’d be able to say whatever he wanted under Shady Records .Last year ,50 broke the record of the legendary rock ‘n’ roll band The Beatles for having max no of songs in top 50 at the same time on the Billboard .No doubt,he’s got a formidable fan following but I really feel his music sucks big-time.His rapping style is what I call sleepy-rap where he just keeps on droning without any voice variation with some busty babes giving him a great time. His lyrics is something very difficult to relate to .Even his biggest hits like P.I..M.P ,Candy shop don’t have that cuss which can make me listen to him again & again or even try learning his rapping style..

Now comes the Man-the man whose I’m the biggest fan ,a fan even bigger than Stan-Eminem.The best thing about his rap is it comes straight from his heart & something I can relate to. No wonder, in 2002 ,he was voted the 2nd most powerful celebrity on the earth .In each of his songs & in each of his lines u’ll see a reflection of evry feeling, emotion, thought which are buried inside evryone’s heart & mind . His frustrations, failures, pain, hope, dedication,journey-to-zenith are somethings which u can easily relate to .He has never hesitated to target whatsoever & whomsoever he doesn’t like .No wonder N-sync ,Christina Aug., MJ, Elvis, Tom Green, Mrs. Cheney, George Bush. among others have been at his receiving end .

For me,Shady is the uncrowned ruler of the Rap world & I m not saying that ‘coz I’m his die-hard fan but ‘coz his music & lyrics has something which liberates ur heart, mind & soul. No other rapper would have inspired & changed the lives of so many people (I being one !) around the world. Marshall has done that.

Hail Eminem!!

THINK IT OVER!
“You can do anything u set your mind to ,man”- EMINEM

Call me a So-called Engineer!!

Well , it’s 3 in the night .Now that may seem pretty too-late-to-be-awake to you but seems like everyone in the hostel is wide awake & having a great time. Some rooms are thundering with voices booming outta their 5000 watt speakers(seems like these guys want to blow off this hostel !) ,a few are out on their bikes while some of us are busy misusing the Internet .After all, today our mid-sem exams got over.
As I pass-out from this college, time & again , I ask myself “ Can I really call myself an engineer ?” What an engineer have I become? What have I learnt during these 4 yrs? A little personal background will let u know what does being an engineer means to me . I belong to a family where every other person is in the armed forces..My dad & my own Chacha being in the Para Commandos(Special Forces) .Others are in Artillery regmts ,Garwhal Rifles, NSG, BSF,CRPF, ITBF & God know which all other forces . I don’t know why I wanted to do engineering but as I reached 7 or 8 th std-when one starts knowing about careers options- one thing I was damn sure about was that if I’ll do something that “something” has to be this thing i.e. Engg & that too from a good college .Thanx to Discovery channel, I started over-estimating my future capabilities as an engineer. All those robo wars, microchips, space shuttles used to leave me absolutely fascinated . Fortunately (& unfortunately too!!) I landed up doing engineering .Now, whenever I go home , my dad & my relatives who just have a vague idea about engg. ask me one question - the answer to which I still haven’t figured out in all these four years :”Ok! beta Tell me you are an Electronics engineer, so what can you design, what all things can you make” & I reply with the same I-still-don’t-know expressions on my face “Well, I can design….”..& there I’m ,never able to complete my sentence .Sounds funny? Yea ,it is.After that, from somehow I make up an answer & say “ Actually we learn theory in the college & apply it in the industry.” Whereas the truth is whatever we are learning will go down the drain if we join the software industry-which almost all of us are gonna do. Well , what real knowledge have we gained studying in a premier engg college of India ?
In this sem, I’ve subjects with names which may leave u in awe like Artificial Intelligence, MIS(Mgmt Information Systems) etc. but how much did I study for these exams ?. On an avg just a total of 5-6 hrs for each of the subjects. No , not 5 hrs/day but only 5 hrs before the exam day.Now as my 4 yrs in this college come to an end,I’m still wondering if I can actually make something. Robots & chips have become things I’ve become quite allergic with & the truth is that I don’t know even the basics. of Robotics .Well, all this is coming out from the mouth of a guy who ‘s soon gonna be awarded a prestigious B.Tech(Hons.) degree from one of the top ranking engg. colleges-National Institute of Technology,Jamshedpur ( I wrote the full form to remind myself that I’m studying in a top-ranking engg. college, alas,I’d long forgotton this!!) .We all have made studies a big joke here .Haven't we?
But should I blame myself who could have learnt something but didn’t even try doing that ? Most of we poor souls fall under this category .Don’t we ?
Or the “system” which drifted away the interest of a onetime book-worm(now dat’s embarrassing confession!! )from studies to things which don’t have even remote connection with studies ?
I don’t know whether this college made me a good engineer or not but on the bang of a fist I can say that it has fully prepared me to face any situation in life & now we can live in any type of condition anywhere on the earth. I guess ppl passing out from here wouldn’t have any difficulty coping up with life even in an African country( no pun intended.haha)

Cheers!!
